St. Gergis: Student Stabs Nun
A young man shouted "God is Great" when he burst into St. Gergis church in Alexandria and stabbed a nun and a man today. The police arrested the attacker and said the injuries he had caused were not serious. - this is just out from Reuters.
Last week, the church was put under siege by thousands of Muslims. Coptic christians in the neighborhoud fled the area in fear. Read my previous post Alexandria on Sectarian Fire.
When leaders of the Muslim community demonstrated and called for attacks on Christians outside the mosque last week, they legitimized aggressive behavior. When you do that, younger hot-heads will always interpret it as a thumbs up for more serious action.
There is only one God and this is not what he wanted, no matter if you are Muslim or Christian.

The thing that gets me Ritzy is that these are so called people of God flipping thier lids during their holy days. How do they justify engaging in these acts of violence during such a holy period?
It seems so hypocritical.

I think they think they are on the right path and their 'good doing' will either gain them extra bonus since it's Ramadan or it won't be any difference at all. The scary thing is that they seem to think their actions are extra legit because this is the holy month. I browsed through an article at Jihad Watch today that mentioned at least eight occasions when the Prophet himself was in battle during Ramadan, so I guess they can point to that. I'm always stunned that people don't see anything wrong with attacking Israel during Yom Kippur, the typical response would be that 'it was Ramadan too' - as if it would make it any better. I can never accept that you attack someone else because of their faith. This particular instance, which started with a play deemed offensive, I think is ridiculous. Write an op ed to the paper if you're offended, or go to court. That may not be the easiest solution in Egypt but at least you've done something that's within the limits of what is acceptable. (in my eyes).
