Lockerbie Libyan Could be Freed

Today’s Sunday Telegraph comes with more than one highlight: The Libyan in prison for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing (270 dead) could soon be a free man after new doubts on testimonials by experts in the 2001 court trial has surfaced.

A general warns that the British army could soon loose its reputation “because it is being forced to recruit soldiers from a ‘morally corrupt and dysfunctional’ society, where young men idolize foul-mouthed footballers”. He brands today’s recruits as "cocky and arrogant and brought up on a diet of football brats and binge drinking . . . who are not educated in and able to recognize self-discipline".

Is that the state of the Queen’s loyal subjects? Well then it is time to dump the professional army and introduce compulsory conscription. That would shape up the nation. As an extra benefit – and disciplining threat – they could pack the whole bunch off to Iraq where they are better needed.

Iran 'supplies infra-red bombs' that kill British troops in Iraq. “A radio signal is used to arm the bomb as a target vehicle approaches. The next object to break the infra-red beam - the target vehicle - detonates the device.” Coalition officials say it is a key part of a new aggressive plan by Tehran to drive out coalition forces so an Islamic theocracy can be established. Really nice stuff, right?

MI5 recruitment is flooded by applications from Muslims. That is a good sign, reflecting the country’s demographics. Lesser knowing conspiracy theorists might suggest they’re trying to infiltrate. I think that kind of speculating would be perceived as racist. And since 007 was recently sacked it is perhaps time for Hollywood to reflect the realities of the multicultural world and check if Omar Sherif’s heart is still ticking or if there are any action-Abdullah-heroes willing to take on the role. “Cay kushari please, stirred, not shaken.” Moneypenny will be thrilled.

Edit: Omar Sherif isn’t dead yet, he is voicing a character in the coming Ali-Baba and the 40 Thieves movie.

Also in the UK, where else, a Muslim who is known for calling Bin Laden a freedom fighter and also known for his ferocious anti-semitism has now got a Top-Job with the government and will be in charge of rooting out extremism. His opinions then don’t reflect his opinions now, he says. Right; you lacked brains and judgment then and although you might have improved some of the latter you’ve hardly gained some of the former. Please prove me wrong.
